Economics: With inflation close to peaking, and the
worst in the trade deficit behind us, is it time to ease?
We think not.
ô??- Equity Strategy: The stock market rallied on the
back of anti-inflation measures, but the next worry is
earnings growth, with some companies reporting
surprising profit drops â?" and even losses â?" in H1. While
the earnings outlook is unclear, the market remains risky.
ô??- Fixed Income Strategy: Although VGB yields
have stabilised over the past few weeks, rising inflation and
tightening bank liquidity could lead to a modest further rise
in VGB yields. Notably, uncertainties need to be clarified
about Vietnamâ?Ts future macro-policy direction. FX-hedging
on existing long VGB positions is recommended on a
further leftward shift in USD/VND NDFs.
ô??- FX Strategy: The positive news flow has persisted,
and the FX market has stabilized. The ongoing correction
in oil and food prices suggests the currency will not be
unduly affected by a modest policy easing. We revise our
FX forecasts. We maintain that the longer-term
appreciation story remains intact
